'Hike and Excursion to our neighbouring Fort'

Stéphane Blokhuis wants to visit and explore our neighbouring Fort, Fort bij Aalsmeer, which is home to the Fortboerderij Dijkzicht (Fort Farm Dijkzicht) and their heather sheep who ecologically manage the grassland of the Geniedijk.
Our hike from our base, Kunstfort Vijfhuizen, to the Fort bij Aalsmeer along the The Dutch Waterline will give us the opportunity to put our current working site in the bigger context of the "Waterline Defense Machine" and to experience the dimensions of this gigantic landscape construction project.

Exploring and mapping the Kunstfort Vijfhuizen through walking and drawing

Please bring your own drawing materials (a sturdy back to draw on the walk is recommended)
How can the spaces become the basis for our artistic inquiry? What methods and strategies can be explored to dissect the territory and playfully map/ visualize the area’s micro-spaces? This workshop delves into the characterization of the spaces within and around Kunstfort. It aims to explore different areas and how they can serve as focal points for artistic exploration. Areas are explored through drawing as intuitive process, engaging with visual intertwining of the spaces: what are the intertwining elements visible through signs, symbols, and conditions, scattered around the area, and how are they connected? Drawing will be utilized as a primary process to engage with the visual interconnections present in the environment, deciphering signs, symbols, and conditions scattered throughout. Additionally, participants will develop their own sign systems through drawing and painting techniques, ultimately creating visual interfaces that translate different landscapes into personal expressions.

In the walk on Saturday we will silently follow, the dog, Bruce, wherever he goes, making notes (writing, field recording, video, photo, or whatever you prefer). After the walk we will have a round table to discuss our observations (of Bruce and the Landscape).

In the walk on Sunday we will alter our method of the walk, according to our round table discussion on Saturday. Again we will make notes (writing, field recording, video, photo, or whatever you prefer). After the walk we will have another round table to discuss our observations (of Bruce and the Landscape). Walkers who aren't participating on Saturday are encouraged to join anyhow.
Project Background:
The arthouse film project 'Space.Landscape.Dog.' by artist, Alexander Johannes, is not about this particular landscape, the landscape of the Kunstfort, or the place. But all three entities form fantastic backdrops for a poetic inner landscape dominated by a melancholic resignation to a daunting utopia.
In the context of the production of the art film, Alexander Johannes and the dog, Bruce, organise a series of experimental dog walks. Aim of the walks is to develop strategies and concepts, which allow the dog to lead the walkers and thus become a contributing participant of the Sensory Threshold LAB 2024 AS FOUND+.
