Sensory Threshold LAB 2019, COSMOGRAPHIA

– Like travellers putting their heads under the edge of the firmament. –

During Sensory Threshold LAB, 2019 ‘Cosmographia’ at A-Dash in Athens the participants explored the human body as the perceptual center between micro- and macrocosm.

Cosmographia was the first Sensory Threshold LAB hosted at A-Dash project space in Athens during Katherina Heil’s artist in residency period. While in Athens, Katherina collaborated with Rik Möhlmann (NL) on her project “Sensory Thresholds” to explore both of their practices across various media. The exhibition was accompanied by a symposium, organised in collaboration with Rik Möhlmann and PACTO artist collective, featuring contributions by Katherina Heil (DE), Kyriaki Goni (GR), Rik Möhlmann (NL), PACTO artist collective (EU/USA), Daphne Politi (GR), Dimitris Rentoumis (GR), and Demelza Watts (UK). The exhibition and symposium “Cosmographia” originates from the interest in finding cosmic connections in images and objects related to scientific exploration of space and holistic understanding of the universe. The aim of the exhibition is to establish connections by using intuitive methods and aesthetics of cosmic visualization and educational knowledge production, constructing non-linear narratives resembling poetry, and assembling different fragments to establish connections. The exhibited works explore the human body as the perceptual center between micro- and macrocosm. Inspired by the ancient concept of the symposium, the exhibition included a program, food, drinks, and a closing event.
