Sensory Threshold LAB 2024, AS FOUND+

– Site, Space, Species… in between land and machine –

During Sensory Threshold LAB 2024, AS FOUND+! at Kunstfort Vijfhuizen, the participants were invited to engage with the architecture and landscape of the fort, which is part of the dutch water line. In various workshops and activities we engaged deeply with the place. Together we discovered this vast landscape, which is actually a giant war-machine.

As Found+ was the title of the 4th edition of the Sensory Threshold LAB where, once again, artists and researchers came together to explore, think, and experiment in a specific spatial and conceptual context. Since Sensory Threshold Lab sees the topic of collaboration with all its modalities as one of its overarching field of investigation, exploring and shaping it together with all participants throughout the process and across disciplines was a central theme during this particular LAB.

The project at Kunstfort Vijfhuizen seeked to explore the intersections between otherworldly environments, interdisciplinary collaboration, human, and more-than-human perspectives. It aimed to create a unique experience where artists, researchers, and the surrounding community came together to delve into the creation and interpretation of the Kunstfort and its landscape in diverse and unexpected ways.

As Found+ emphasized the use of found materials, ready-made objects, and site-specific interventions. The artists and researchers engaged deeply with the place its ecology, history, and future. In this way, the interface between art, research, process and practice was explored and challenged. This practical and theoretical reflection and interaction was experienceable by the visitors in the form of many workshops and other public moments we designed during our 6 weeks stay at Kunstfort bij Vijfhuizen.
